You can be the talk of the neighborhood if you have a paint brush, ingenuity and a garage door. You would think that Suburbia′s elaborate garage doors were the new way of asserting the homeowner′s social standing, one thing is for certain that they are providing the owners to express their creativity. The streets of northwest area suburbs with their hand painted murals, brightly colored geometric designs, and a multitude of pre-made commercial designs never fail to appeal to the passing motorists.
Contemporary garage doors are already pretty cool, but some fun new accessories up the awesome factor even more. Door hardware includes clavos (nail heads), hinge kits, pulls, and shutter dogs in stainless steel, carbon steel, or aluminum. Although some of these touches may be too fussy for ultra-modern architecture, designers use them today in non-standard ways that add a high degree of visual interest. There are also several fun new mechanical accessories that fit the modern ethos of this door style. New remote control devices allow you to use wifi and your Smartphone to open and close garage doors from anywhere in the world and to alert you when the door is used. Improved access controllers use fingerprint and even retinal scan technology to protect the home from unwanted entry. Battery backup units, surge protectors and the ability to program openers to turn on house lights, temperature controls and music when you get home are quickly gaining in popularity.
There are several things that you have to decide on when choosing the right type of door for your garage. You have to choose from a range of styles and materials. There are types of doors that have windows while there are those that have solid door panels. The most common materials for garage doors are aluminum and steel. However, there are now manufacturers that offer doors that are made of wood, fiberglass, wood composites, metal combinations and even plastic. Style options include a wide array of raised panels as well as those that adopt the industrial look. When assessing your options in the style and function, you may either go for the type of garage door that spans the entire width of your garage or the type of door which is composed of two or more small door panels.
